Learning Activity – Expressing Meaning – Week06

Here are my three words and an expression of meaning through design, manipulating the typeface.

Research and preparation:

I made my up my own word, «upple», and did some sketches based on the list of word provided. They are shown in the gallery below.

Then I started creating the final desings:

• My first word is «loading». I wanted a typeface which had a heavy and bold feel, displaying it only partly, giving the idea of it being loaded.

I have used the typeface Franklin Gothic Heavy and played around with lines, placements and scale.

• My second word is «Falling». I wanted a typeface with easily read letters, and a «G» I could reshape without it loosing much readability.

The typeface used is Corbel regular og Corbel Bold

• My third word is one I’ve made up myself: «Upple».

•

The typeface used is Century Gothic with a little manipulation of the «L» to avoid it looking like a slash symbol. I wanted the word to rest along the bottom, but I think I loose too much readability.
